Female Infertility & Chinese Medicine

TCM treats infertility by improving the patients overall health with the focus being the regulation of the menstrual cycle. A woman’s period may come either early or late, or at no fixed interval. There also may be irregularities in amount, color, and consistency of the menstrual flow. Other problems could include painful menstruation or premenstrual complaints.

Many of these complaints can be resolved in approximately 3 to 4 cycles. If there is a history of the use of fertility drugs, sexually transmitted disease, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or polycystic ovaries the process may take longer. Chinese medicine sees the regulating and balancing of the periodicity of the cycle and resolving any abnormal symptoms related to the menstruation as a key to reproductive health.

The BBT chart has become an additional tool, that when analyzed using the logic and principles of TCM provides a wealth of information regarding a woman’s reproductive health. For example, a follicular phase that is either too low, too high, too long, too short, or relatively unstable would be equated to specific TCM patterns and treated accordingly.

Using the therapies of Chinese herbs and acupuncture, TCM can help you balance the disharmonies which have been preventing conception. It is very common for couples today to feel like it is getting too late and severe measures must be employed. Please be patient with yourself. Acupuncture and herbal therapies are gentle, yet effective.
